Genesis 1:1-5   Day One of Creation

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.  [NKJV]

Much is revealed about God and His creation in these first five verses of Divine Revelation:

Y      First it was Elohiym, Who is identified as God, in the English translations.

The word Elohiym in the Hebrew text is a plural word since the ending letters are Yod (y) and Mem (m) of the Hebrew alphabet, and when they appear at the end of a word it acts the same as an ending “s” on an English word.

The word elohiym is translated in English as gods in many occasions the first occurring in [Exodus 20:3] where God says, “You shall have no other elohiym (gods) before Me,” "And in all that I have said to you, be circumspect and make no mention of the name of other elohiym (gods), nor let it be heard from your mouth.   [Exodus 23:13]

Thus God identifies Himself in the plurality which is also compatible with the concept of the Triune God made up of the Godhead being a combination of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

However in the Gospel of [John 1:1] we find the Second Person of the Godhead referred to as The Word rather than the Son, which He became at the time of the incarnation as God entered the world as a Man when Jesus was born.  In the Gospel of [John 1:1-3] we learn that He (God The Word) was present at the time of creation since He was involved in the creation and nothing was made without Him.

Y      Second we find that there were more than one heaven at the first act of creation since the word is “ha’shammayim” where again the ending letters are the Yod (y) and Mem (m) making the word a plurality translated into English as the heavens.

We know of at least three heavens described in Scripture;  one is the heaven where birds fly known as the atmosphere around the earth as in [Genesis 1:20].

The second is the solar system where the stars and planets abide as in [Genesis 1:15].

And the third is the place where God resides according to the Apostle Paul in [2 Chorinthians 12:2]

Y      Third we discover that when the earth was first made, it was a large mud glob and described as without form and darkness was on the face of the deep.

As such it was void of any life or character, and was floating in darkness as the scientists have proved that in deep space there is no light.

There was no definite shape and the entire mass was referred to as the deep, which included all the substances of water, and minerals which made up the floating mass.

Y      Fourth we discover that the Holy Spirit was also present.

“The Spirit of God” was hovering over the face of the waters. Thus completing the trinity of the Godhead called Elohiym in Hebrew, or translated into English as “God.”

Y      Fifth we learn that the earth was created at the spoken Word of God which is a reference to the work of God the Word as Elohiym said, “Let there be light” and there was light.

It is interesting to notice that the light God created the first day was not the light of the sun, moon, or stars since they were not made until the fourth day.

Yet the light was all that was needed to give life to the plants caused to grow the third day and sustain botanical life.

Y      Sixth, we also discover that Creator God caused the earth mass to spin at its present rate as He separated the light from the darkness and called the evening and morning the first day.

The term “evening and morning” are there because God knew of the concept of evolution that would be introduced by those who attempt to discredit the creation story.

And God wanted us to know it was done in one turn of the earth and not over the eons of ages espoused by the evolutionists, which is a religion of its own since it cannot be proven or duplicated for scientific observation, though they claim otherwise and call their theory a scientific fact.

By the way, it takes more faith to believe the evolutionists theory than it takes to believe what God Himself revealed.

The word “day” often appears in the Bible to cover the life span of a man or a kingdom or any great expanse of time, so the term “Evening and morning” are supplied by God to correct any doubt about it being one turn of the earth.
