Genesis 1:6-8   Day Two of Creation

6 Then God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters." 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.     NKJV

Here again the Hebrew word “Elohiym” is the plural translated in English as “God.”

Y      Creation is again accomplished by the spoken Word of Elohiym.

Y      The word firmament is translated from the Hebrew word “raaqiya” which means “expanse.”

Y      This expanse is the atmosphere which separates the waters above in the steam, vapors, and clouds from the condensed waters below which refers to all water on and under the surface of the earth.

Y      This ‘expanse’ or ‘atmosphere’ is called heaven, translated from the Hebrew word “shamaaym.”

Y      And again the second day is described as “evening and morning” to confirm that it was a reference to a single turn of the earth and not an extended period of time.
