Genesis 2:1-3††† Precedent of Sabbath (Rest) on seventh day
2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.†††† NKJV
Facts to observe regarding the Sabbath:
Y Here in chapter two God is still referred to as Elohiym the plural God.
Y It was after all His work of creation was finished.
Y God set the example in setting a precedent on which to base His law for rest.
Y God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, which means that God made the seventh day special and set it apart from the other days of the week because of His example of rest and this is intended as a blessing to man for all time.
Breaking of this law brought the death penalty
Y The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath, according to Jesus in [Mark 2:27].†††
Y The Sabbath was given first to the Gentiles because at the Creation there were no Jews but all were one in Adam.† So no one can say that the Sabbath is only a Jewish law.† All who believe God should observe the Sabbath because that was Godís intent from the very start.
Y In observing the Sabbath, because it was set as a precedent for man and as an example for man by God Himself, we must be mindful of God and give Him thanks for the day of rest and the blessing it brings for each of us.
Y Good Sabbath!
