Genesis 22:20-24    Genealogy of Rebekah, Wife of Isaac

20 “Now it came to pass after these things that it was told Abraham, saying, "Indeed Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21 Huz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram, 22 Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel." 23 And Bethuel begot Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah.”  NKJV

Facts revealed:

Y      Again in keeping with Bible record tradition, when women are named it is because they play an important role in the continuity of the story.  And in this case, we are given the family line of Rebekah, the one who will become the wife of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of promise.

It is through Isaac that God said the line of The Covenant would pass from Abraham.  That is the Covenant God made with Abraham when he was chosen to start the descendants through whom God would make all His revelations of Himself to the world.

These are the people whom God will use as an example as He reveals His ways to the world so He won’t need to continually repeat the great judgments like He did with the Flood in the days of Noah, and later in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Y      Abraham received a report from Syria concerning his brother Nahor who was left in Haran when Abraham obeyed God and left his family to come down to the land of Canaan.  [Genesis 11:26-31]

Y      Milcah, the wife of Nahor, had born children - the names of the children and grandchildren are given.

Y      Included in the names is Aram, whose name is placed on the plateau - called Padan Aram [Genesis 25:20] where Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for Isaac.

Y      Bethuel, Nahor’s son, is the father of Rebekah who became the wife of Isaac.
